Almost a full year later, HAPPY ENDING!
LAMB CHOP UPDATE: After her surgery, her heart worm treatment, months and months of medical care, and much love and care by her dog rescuer Stephanie and her foster family, she is now happy in her new FOREVER HOME. PROPS TO STEPHANIE MEACHAM for making this happen. Happy Ending!!
March 2012: LAMBCHOP IS BETTER, BUT NOW NEEDS A HOME OR FOSTER CARE. PLEASE HELP! SHE NEEDS A LOVING HOME SO BADLY!! WHEN SHE WAS FIRST HIT BY THE CAR, SO MANY PEOPLE OFFERED TO HELP. WHERE ARE THEY NOW??
Update 8-30-11. Lambchop running!
Lambchop is doing wonderful!!! Lambchop is able to stand up and walk using all of her legs. At times, her right leg falls limp, but she tries to correct herself and put weight on that leg. She is walking and running, and is showing no signs of pain.
Thanks to all who donated! The vet bill was paid in full and its a happy ending! Im sure she will find a good home with all the people who love and care for her from the vet's office. Congrats to Stephanie who worked so hard to save this dog. Love, Sita.

LAMBCHOP UPDATE 8/14:Here is the latest on Miss Lambchop, the diva. Lambchop is doing well!! Her pain seems to have gone down considerably. She does much better when she is not in her cage at the vet. She was so used to feeling pain, when people would clean her or move her, so she equated pain with being in her cage. Lambchop has been able to stand on 3 of her legs. She is alert and eating well. The employees allow her to hang out with them at the front desk, and I am told she "talks to the customers". Lambchop can now be held without screaming in pain. Her human aggression has seemed to subside, although she has her "favorites". She has however, shown some potential dog aggression, but it is too early to tell, since she is just beginning her journey. Lambchop had her leg placed back into her hip, but it has not stayed successfully, so she will go into surgery this coming week, to have it repaired, hopefully for good!! A friend stopped by with a wheelchair, which I am told she really enjoys! Dr. Schwartz and his staff have been such a wonderful gift to many rescue animals. Dr. Schwartz is not only a phenomenal, experienced, and precise doctor, but he is compassionate and gentle with the animals. It is rare to have those assets combined with his understanding for the people in animal rescue. He has decided that Lambchop's total bill would be $1,000. Her hospitalization and pain meds alone would've quickly reached that cost in a week. We are very fortunate that he has been so willing to work with us, but ultimately doing what is needed for the animals. We are still needing a little over $100 to cover Lambchop's bill. We thank you for all donations received thus far, as well as any other donations still to come. We invite you to show your appreciation for Dr. Schwartz and his staff and their involvement in the care of so many animals in need. If anyone would like to send a token of thanks, whether it be:-restaurant gift cards-thank you cards and flowers-a couple pizzas (or any food) for the staff (I have been told they are so busy on Sats/Suns that they don't normally eat).-treats/sodas-anything you would like to offer!! I would like for them to know that their efforts are appreciated throughout the rescue community!! I will continue to keep everyone updated on Lambchop's continued recovery. We will not know the right placement for Lambchop until she has improved her status a little more. But we are open to offers, and will determine the right environment when the time is right. Thank you all for helping Lambchop fight this battle!! She has a will to live that I have never seen before, and it is was also made possible through all of you!

Lamb chop the Chihuahua hit by car and left for dead on side of the road...
Lambchop is a white chihuahua, approximately 3 years old, who was hit by a car, and picked up by Granite City, IL animal control over the weekend. Had the volunteers not scooped her up, and rushed her to the vet, she likely would not have survived through the weekend.
Lambchop lay still on her Kuranda bed, and the volunteers initially thought she was dead. When the volunteer carried her limp body to the car, she lifted her head and squinted at the sun, as if to say, "someone finally came for me". In the car ride to the vet, the volunteer petted her head gently, and rubbed her ears, and Lambchop slowly lifted her head up with a gaze that simply said, "thank you".
Immediately upon arrival at the vet, she was administered pain meds, put on fluids and xrays were taken. She was in such an extreme state of shock, and brain damage was starting to occur. The vet believed she was suffering from hypothermia and heat exhaustion in addition to her injuries. Her xrays show that she has a fracture in her spine and a dislocated hip. Her body is severly bruised. Lambchop's prognosis was not good. The vet suggested we keep her hospitalized to monitor her and to keep her comfortable. Euthanasia crossed everyone's mind. But, in the car, the volunteer promised Lambchop that they would do whatever it took to spare her life, and if she was struggling too much, that they would put her to rest in peace.
Lambchop has improved slightly. Now that she is no longer in shock, her body is feeling a tremendous amount of pain. Her brain is looking good, and she is alert. She is eating and drinking, although she cannot move. The volunteer went to visit her, and Lambchop seemed to remember her. Even though she was in excruciating pain, she lifted her head to greet her. After 3 days of hospitalization, stabilizing and some healing, the volunteers had to make a choice. We had to decide whether to put her out of her misery, or giving her a chance at living a good life. We opted for her to have surgery. We made a promise to her, and if there was a glimmer of hope for her, we were going to take it.
Lambchop goes into surgery July 26, 2011, to attempt to repair her horrific injuries. It is a risk, as in any other surgery, but we have to at least try. She has already put up such a fight, and has such a will to live, that we are hoping that she will pull through and begin her recovery process. If all goes well, she will ultimately need an adopter or rescue to step up for her.
We have gotten a rough estimate for all of her medical expenses including her hospitalization and surgery. As of now, we are looking at $1,500 for everything, which is including a significant discount.
We were not going to let cost determine the value of her life, so we are asking for help! No donation is too small, and we ask that you share this with anyone who may be able to help. Please join us and Lambchop in the fight for her life!!
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer her. Please pray for a successful surgery!!
