These are all the dogs we have either taken in, adopted out, rehomed, rescued, found a foster home for, brought to a no kill shelter from kill shelters, or placed at the pet shop to get adopted out -- every possible avenue of helping. Just because I'm a shelter doesn't mean the dog always comes to my home. Being Creative and Efficient = more pets saved

#68 Ringo the Chihuahua, from Aurora Animal Control. I love him! (Saved Jan 2013)
UPDATE: SUCCESSFULLY ADOPTED OUT BY CRITTERS PET SHOP!
When a dog is first examined by animal control, "tested" to see if they are going to be available for adoption, do you know how they do it? (Caution: Get ready to get really upset.)
The person, who is completely untrained in animal behavior, who simply got a job at animal control with NO EXPERIENCE, holds out a rope harness. If the dog does not immediately bow his head down and allow the rope to be put around his next, he is "unadoptable". I am not joking. A very intimidating and unfriendly person, holds a rope to a scared, cold, confused dog that who knows what has just happened to him, in a scary, loud, smelly place, and if the dog so much as hesitates, they are "unadoptable".
This is unimaginable and should be illegal. They do not wait an hour, a day or any amount of time for this scared animal to calm down even!
This is something that should be brought to the attention of City Board Members. This is not animal welfare. This is abuse of power. And it is sick. What what your dog do? Would he survive this test?
Ringo did not want to stick his head in the scary rope and was thus "only available for rescue". He is INCREDIBLY SWEET AND AWESOME. After 1 minute of talking to him, I bent down and told him I loved him, and I got right in his face. What did this dog do? Gave me kisses.
Always rescue always adopt. These dogs (and cats) have no one helping them be their voice. Please help these shelter dogs. Support Critters Pet Shop. Support Petfinder. Support your local rescue. DO SOMETHING.
Its easy to sit back and be critical of others - its hard to go to an animal control, walk past those pleading eyes and helpless barks. Thats whats hard. So please support Critters and what we are doing to save the lives of shelter pets.

#67 "Ann Marie" the Cat - saved from Aurora Animal Control and safe at Critters for Adoption (Jan 2013)
So now I am helping save cats! My old co-worker friend Ann Marie (a person) has a HUGE soft spots for cats (I adopted my first 2 rescued cats to her). Whenever I rescue a cat, I think of her. In honor of her, I had Critters name this grey cat Ann Marie. She is a wonderful animal lover.

#65 Toby - saved from Anderson Animal Shelter in South Elgin (kill shelter) now safe in a Foster home near Jacksonville, IL
update: successfully adopted out due to foster Angee S!
Chihuahua Mix - Small Adult Male Website: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/25138342
This little guy was offered to my shelter back in May of 2012. I had just taken in an older Chihuahua, (Jackaroo age 11) who has significant eye and health issues. I was not able to take Toby, but I always thought about him. I sponsored him for a while to make sure he was not euthanized.
I made a connection with a wonderful foster, Angee, and in December, I drove him (in the rain) from South Elgin a few hours down south to meet his new foster mom. I broke him out of the shelter and got him a foster mom! He is safe at Angee's home until he finds his forever home. Imagine being in a cage for 9 months! UGH.
♥ ♥ ♥ He needs a forever mom or dad! ♥ ♥ ♥

Carlton, the Guinea Pig. Available at Critters Pet Shop. (Don't know if I should count him as a stray)
On one hand, every animal matters, he should count! On the other, I don't want to mislead anyone with the number of dogs and cats, so I will only count them...
Yep. If I can, I will. Hoarder situation and Chicago Animal Control had about 40 of them. I was told he had the best personality. So I took him.

#64 - Jack - (n/k/a Skipper) from Chicago Animal Care and Control - adopted out the same day to the best family ever! (no, not me...)
ADOPTED OUT BY SITA THE SAME DAY
He has one brown eye, and one blue eye. He is a chihuahua, merle color/grey brown and white. He was tucked away in medical because he could not handle Chicago Animal Control's adoption floor. That is usually a death sentence. Someone emailed me when I mentioned I was going there, and told me to look for him. So I did.
Some dogs touch your soul. He and I connected and I almost brought him home to my house to live forever. I love him so much. Sometimes there are just no words.
"Here comes the sun, here comes the sun, and I say, its alright..."

#39 - Fluffy White Poodle Girl. Saved from Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC) on Sept 28
While I am a Chihuahua rescue, the more I do this, the less I am inclined to be exclusive. She was cowering in the back of her cage when I saw her. To walk row after row in Chicago Animal Control is a surreal experience. Whenever I tell someone about Chicago Animal Control (Who try their best, in their defense) if they know of the place, they look at me knowingly. "Women come out crying and men come out pissed off" on lady told me. Yes, she is correct. The tears fall and my heart breaks as I walk by picking and choosing who gets to live.
Its absolutely horrifying.
If a person who was going to purchase a dog had to walk through that facility, I bet 99 out of a 100 would never buy a dog again, and would only adopt. Words cannot express that place.

#36 Kisses (a/k/a Bree) the 5 lb blind 11 year old lame Chihuahua.
I got a call from a Chicago Police Officer, begging me to take this little girl. It was September 11th. I thought, how do I say no to a police officers request on Sept 11? I had to take her. She was found and picked up by the police in Chicago, in an alley, scared, blind, with a messed up leg and hip. She has severe dental disease and her tougue hangs out from no teeth on that side. She walks into walls and everything else.
She is safe now and does not have to worry. Some people would consider euthanzing this dog, especially if she were at a shelter. She would be put down immediately. BUT she has a right to live. She is getting better. She is finding her way. She is loving and sweet, and now trusting of my husband. She will get her chance at life. We love her so. Thank you Officer Kisses! (Yes, thats really the name of the person who contacted me)
i love her so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

#35 "Aspen" aka Miller from Southern IL on August 31
Rescued and Adopted on the same day!! WOO HOO!
This guy was SO EXCITED to get out of the shelter and meet his new family. There is no better feeling than giving someone a place to call home. Everyone needed each other.
Why would you buy when you can cause this sort of happiness?
"Any fool knows, a dog needs a home. A shelter, from pigs on the wings"

#34 Snuggles from CACC on July 11, 2012.
I simply love her. I wanted to keep her so badly, but I am a helper, not a hoarder. She will get adopted out easily as she only wants to sit and snuggle. She was such a frightened little girl, scared in the back of her cage at Chicago Animal Control, in a loud, scary room, that when I saw her, my heart melted. If I could bring them all to safety I would. My heart aches and I cry for those I left behind. Its heart wrenching and I may never get over the pain of it. But its not my pain that counts, its the little ones stuck in cages for a limited time until someone rescues them, or they are euthanized.
FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING ON THIS EARTH, PLEASE ADOPT!!

These beautiful animals were dropped off by their owner. The one the far back is slightly grumpy. The 2 upfront at loving and sweet, and like your attention. These little ones were saved from CACC (Chicago Animal Care & Control). These little cuties are safe at DeKalb County Animal Shelter and should be adopted out shortly. Please visit their website if you are interested. :)

#28-29 Butters and Matthew, the cats. Adopted out June 2012.
#27 Jackaroo (5-18-12)
Jackaroo is from Aurora Animal Control, age 11 (they told me he was 6!) . He was abandoned in a parking lot of an animal hospital. His eye is really messed up but we will try and fix him up, neuter him, get him healthy, fix his eye and get him adopted out. Wish Sita luck !
Update: Jackaroo's has serious eye issues and we are giving him a round of drops, 3 times a day, and he sees a eye specialist. For now, he is safe at Sita's.

#26 DOUG, the Chihuahua from Anderson Animal Shelter and then DeKalb County Animal Shelter.
He found a home. After being in a shelter since September 2010, he finally found his person who would love and accept him, with all his quirks. So lucky! So grateful to DeKalb County for helping this little one out.
UPDATE: DOUG WAS ADOPTED OUT AND LIVES HAPPILY ON A FARMETTE IN NORTHERN ILLINIOS. YAY!

#24 Mimi, who was given away by her owner because "she was done with her" April 2012 she was adopted out.
UPDATE: In August, she passed away surrounded by her loving family. Heart is broken. We will miss you sweet girl. I see your picture and get teary. I love you Mimi. At least you didn't die alone in a shelter. I am so grateful to your adoptive family for specifically choosing an older, sick dog who they could love. Praise that family.
24 & 25: Mimi and Cosita - owner surrender (Feb 3, 2012)
2-3-12. I had an owner call me out of the blue and surrender her 2 dogs. Mimi (tan) is 11 years old, and Cosita is 1 1/2 years old. Mimi has cushings disease and other health problems. She is being treated with medicine now and is going to be trying out her new family. Fingers crossed! Cosita was turned over to DeKalb County Animal Shelter and hopefully will be adopted out shortly. Shelters cannot take dogs so old with health issues due to limited resources and space and I am grateful they could take Cosita. They are both little sweeties!
UPDATE: COSITA (BLACK & WHITE) WAS ADOPTED OUT RIGHT AWAY BY DEKALB COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER. SHE HAS A NEW LOVING OWNER AND A LAP TO SIT ON ALL DAY!! YAY!!
MIMI (FAWN) CONTINUES TO HAVE HEALTH ISSUES. WE ARE WORKING ON THEM. SHE HAS CUSHINGS DISEASE THAT AFFECTS HER TREMENDOUSLY. MEDICINE IS NOT WORKING AS WE HOPED, SO SURGERY WILL BE IN HER FUTURE. SINCE SHE IS 11 YEARS OLD, THIS IS A RISKY SURGERY BUT HER STANDARD OF LIVING NEEDS TO IMPROVE. FINGERS CROSSED FOR THIS LITTLE MAMA.
UPDATE: MIMI (TAN) WAS ADOPTED OUT AND IS NOW LIVING WITH A WONDERFUL LOCAL FAMILY. SHE HAS A BROTHER CHIHUAHUA NAMED POOKIE WHO WILL BE HER PAL AND BEST FRIEND. YAY!! THANKS TO HER NEW FAMILY FOR LOVING HER, AND GIVING HER A HOME.

#23 Chica - saved and adopted within 24 hours!
On her way to being put down by the local animal control, Sita saved Chica and had her adopted out within 24 hours! A new record! Thanks to my Husband for finding her a home. I could not do this without him. He is incredible! Thanks to Edwina & Brian for adopting her. She runs the house and keeps the german shepard in line.
#22 "Happy" the stray dog that is really not living up to his name... yet...
Taken from animal control who was going to kill him, Sita brought him to an Animal Shelter that loves and cares for him until he gets adopted out. I can't wait until this little one gets a home and can finally live up to his name. He was saved, but not yet adopted. Fingers crossed !
UPDATE: HAPPY WAS ADOPTED!!

#21 Tater Tot - saved from Kill Shelter
Tater Tot (shown above too) was saved from our local Aurora animal control, and taken to DeKalb County Animal Shelter, where she was adopted out on December 7. Saved another one that was about to be killed! YAY!!
#15, 16, 17, 18, 19 & 20 5 puppies and 1 Momma on doggie death row and set for euthanasia at Aurora Animal Control.
October 7, 2011. Picked up a momma and her 5 newborn puppies that Aurora Animal Control were going to euthanize if no rescue helped them. Sita took them to DeKalb County Animal Shelter. They had open spots and Sita made a donation and dropped off this little family. They will be adopted out easily (according to DeKalb) and so today, we saved 6 lives. It was a good day.

#14 Ben - my sweet boy who we are keeping..
Received from Kane County Animal Control on Feb 3, 2011. He has an issue with men and trust. It took a long time for him to be comfortable around my husband.
UPDATE: WHILE HE GETS A TON OF VIEWS ON PETFINDER, NOT ONE PERSON HAS ASKED ME ABOUT HIM. THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE MISSING OUT ON. LOVE MY BEN! HOW CAN THIS BE?

#13 Jerry n/k/a Pedro. Adopted out 3-9-11
Received from Animal Control with his brother Ben above, on Feb 3, 2011. Jerry was adopted to to Hildy & Orlando A. Sita will miss Jerry very much, because he was a special boy. Jerry had a large hernia sticking out of his stomach when we got him. Jerry's story and the push for change-- changed the way Kane County Animal Control is run, and while its not perfect, at least its hopefully moving in the right direction. Good job Jerry!
Sita is so happy to have met Jerry -- whose ID number with Kane County is 0507 -- MY BIRTHDAY. We were meant to find each other, just like you were meant to be with your new Mama and Papa. I love you little man and miss you already. Love always, Sita & Friends.
PS. Remember we are here to watch you if your Mama and Papa go on vacation!

AS ADORABLE AS PUPPIES ARE, IF PEOPLE HAD BEEN RESPONSIBLE AND SPAYED AND NEUTERED THEIR PETS, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO TAKE UNWANTED DOGS FROM SHELTERS TO HELP. INSTEAD WE SPENT 4 MONTHS RAISING & ADOPTING OUT PUPPIES. BE RESPONSIBLE PEOPLE!!!
#12 Lou Reed n/k/a Chicco. Adopted out 1-23-11.

#8 Lucy the office dog - adoption pending by coworker.
#7 ButterCup n/k/a Lucita. Re-Adopted out 9-27-10
Received from Kane County Animal Control in Sept 2010. Paula from Montgomergy has been gracious enough to readopt Buttercup after she was adopted out a week earlier to a couple who returned her. I guess it didnt work with her first adoptive parents. Dogs are hard work people! And if you think a stray will not need a period of adjustment, then your not realistic. Give Dogs a Chance. She was in a stressful shelter at Kane County, then the rescue house, then she was spayed and took time to recover and then her new place. Its takes time after all that trauma.
Anyway, Thank you Paula, you are a lifesaver.

#6 Marco n/k/a Charlie. Adopted 9-18-10
Received from Anderson Animal Shelter in South Elgin in September of 2010. MARCO HAS BEEN ADOPTED OUT BY TIM FROM SCHAUMBURG ON 9-18-10. Enjoy! Love, Sita & Friends
#5 Sweet Pea. Adopted 8-27-10 (returned)
Received from Elgin Animal Control -- at Golf Rose Animal Hospital in Schaumburg. This is Sweet Pea. She lives up to her name. She was actually pregnant when she first went to the shelter (we didn't know.) We guess she got out of her home when she was in heat, got pregnant and then the dog catcher got her! SHE WAS ADOPTED OUT IMMEDIATELY when Sita first got her. However, the person changed their mind and gave her back. No reason why. It was not Sweet Pea's fault.
She gave birth to 4 puppies on October 8. What a crazy day it was! At least she did it on my day off, and while we were on our way to the vet. What a good girl she is! The puppies are healthy and doing well. She gave birth to the Black and white male first, then a white female, then another white female, and many hours later, a white male. These puppies are NO LONGER available for adoption. They all have happy homes. Thank goodness she did this all at the Vet. Thank you Doctor B & Staff!!
This is a success story too. She had her puppies in a safe non-shelter / warm / loving environment with good food and friends. She could have been put down or back on the streets.

#4 Moose. Adopted 8-27-10. (RETURNED) working on his issues before available for adoption.
Received from Anderson Animal Shelter in July 2010. Moose was adopted out but then was returned to Sita due to his biting his new owner! Moose!! That is not a good boy! She was a nice lady! Now what are we going to do with you? This is the 2nd time you were returned! The first time, you were returned to Anderson Animal Shelter where Sita rescued you from. Now this. Moose will be staying with us due to his biting habits. We don't want to put anyone in jeopardy. His previous homes loved him very very much and it was hard for them to give him up -- but he can't bite people! He has had knee surgery, so usually animals who are in pain show it in this way. We will work on it.
This is still a success story... He has a home, with us for now. We will always work on his biting issue. We Love our Moose. Time is not our enemy. We will do what we can to help him. Once his issue is resolved, we can move forward and if the perfect home for him comes along, we will do what we need to, for Moose.

#3 Ollie Enchilada. Adopted 8-19-10
Received from Anderson Animal Shelter in July 2010. Audi was successfully adopted out to Jenny in Chicago. Audi is now called Ollie and will be greatly missed. He brought joy into our home and hearts and we wish him the best. He is very lucky to have such a wonderful home. Here he is on his first night at his new place. He's a city boy now. Good luck little guy! Keep the pictures coming. Ollie you are so photogenic!! Are you kidding me? How adorable you are!!!
Love, Sita & Friends.
